Toyota Spain, with the help of Teo Martín Motorsport, will be taking part for the first time in the Spanish Rally Superchampionship as the official brand.
This weekend (March 8th and 9th), the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Spain team will make its debut in the Rally Tierras Altas de Lorca, the first of the nine events of the Spanish Rally Superchampionship 2024 (S-CER). This is the first time that Toyota Spain participates as an official brand in the top national rally competition. The Murcian race will also be the first one to be contested by Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada with the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, following several productive test days to prepare for the debut, both at technical and sporting level.
The debut of the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 will be one of the great novelties at the S-CER. The new Toyota model had its world premiere in the last Rallye Montecarlo and already demonstrated its magnificent potential in the Rallye of Sweden, where it even got an absolute scratch, ahead of the Rally1.
Both Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada have an outstanding experience in rallies, as both have competed in different events of the World Championship. This will be the second time they share the cockpit, after they competed in last year's Vidreiro Rally together.
This first rally of the S-CER season takes place entirely on gravel, and the feelings of the whole team are positive. The event promises to be one of the most competitive of the year, since, among the 83 entries, there are no less than 26 cars in the Rally2 category. The challenge is a great motivation for the team made up of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Spain and Teo Martin Motorsport, willing to start the year with a great result.
The Lorca Rally, which is expected to be attended by a large crowd, is characterized by its fast stages. Furthermore, it could be a rally marked by the changing weather conditions forecast for the weekend. The Murcian event consists of eight timed special stages, totaling 108 kilometers. The rally will start on Friday 8th, with a shakedown, a qualifying stage and the ceremonial start in Lorca. On Saturday the 9th, the drivers will race on the traditional stages around the rally headquarters.
Alejandro Cachón (PILOT): "I am very excited about this season. It's a unique opportunity and I'm going to do my best to make the most of it. We are working hard to make a good rally in Lorca. After the tests, feelings have been very positive and, although we still have work to do, I think we are on the right track. Both the team and Borja make me feel very confident and that pushes me to work even harder. I am very grateful".
Borja Rozada (COPILOT): "The whole team is committed to start this project with great strength, which motivates us a lot. I think the work we have done beforehand has been very good, and both Alejandro and I are looking forward to race with this new car and get a good result. We will do our best".
Teo Martín (TEAM MANAGER): "I am very excited about the start of the season. The pre-rally tests have been really positive, and the whole team is working very hard to achieve a good result. I think the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 will give us great moments this year, and Alejandro and Borja are the ideal crew for a project like this one".
