Alejandro Cachón (62 points), third in the Spanish Rally Superchampionship overall, is 6 points behind the leader of the championship.
The Rallye Islas Canarias, which takes place from May 2 to 4, is the third event scoring for the Spanish Rally Superchampionship (S-CER). It is also one of the most significant events of the season, as it also scores for the European Championship (FIA ERC), giving Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada the opportunity to compete against the drivers in the international competition.
The TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Spain and Teo Martín Motorsport team is looking forward to fight for the victory, after the excellent results obtained so far. Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada started the season with two consecutive podiums: second in their debut in the Rallye Lorca and, again, second in the Rallye Sierra Morena. The Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 has been highly competitive both on gravel and tarmac so far.
Currently, Alejandro Cachón and Borja Roza are third in the S-CER overall, with 62 points, but just two points behind Diego Ruiloba and six points behind José Antonio Suárez.
For the preparation of this rally, the Toyota Spain team completed an intense day of testing, already in the Canary Islands, where Alejandro Cachón had the opportunity to fine-tune the car to adapt it to the distinctive stages in the island.
The Rallye Islas Canarias has 193 timed kilometers, consisting of two stages and 13 sections. On this occasion, the longest stage will be Moya-Valleseco, with more than 27 km, while the shortest special stage is the one in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with a distance of 1.8 km and where a large number of spectators is expected. The official start takes place on Wednesday, May 1, while the end of the rally is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, at 18:40 pm.
Alejandro Cachón (DRIVER): “We are very happy after the test day, because the car is highly competitive, and I think we have a chance to fight for the victory in the Spanish Rally Superchampionship. I am very grateful for the effort that the team is making and that is being reflected in the results we are achieving”.
Borja Rozada (CO-DRIVER): “This rally is always difficult because of the high level of drivers, but the team has worked very well and I think we have realistic options to fight for the top. The Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 has also shown itself to be very competitive on tarmac, which gives us plenty of confidence”.
