At the wheel of the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, Cachón and Rozada finish the first stage in the lead and take the TC Plus bonus points.
The Rallye de Ourense has been the fourth scoring event in the Spanish Rally Superchampionship, an event in which Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada, from the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Spain and Teo Martin Motorsport team, were third.
The rally began on Thursday with one of the most crowded protocol starts to date, for the large number of fans who gathered at the Parque de San Lázaro (Ourense).
After the shakedown and the qualifying stage on Friday morning, the first stage of the rally took place in the afternoon. Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada went from less to more, until they manage to get the best time in the third stage. Thus, they finished the first stage 1.2 seconds behind the leader (Diego Ruiloba).
In the second loop of stages, Alejandro Cachón, with the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, gradually increased the pace, as he set the best time also in TC4 and TC5, finishing as leader of the race after the first stage, with a 12.4 seconds advantage over José Antonio Suárez.
On Saturday morning, the Toyota España driver remained at the top until he lost 20 seconds in the eighth stage, when he spun. Nevertheless, this did not prevent the pair of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Spain and Teo Martin Motorsport team to achieve the best time in the TC plus, enough to score the extra points awarded to the first three classified in that special stage.
Thus, Cachón and Rozada, have added a new podium with the GR Yaris Rally2, which places them second in the championship (130 points), now only two points behind José Antonio Suárez (132 points).
The next scoring event for the Spanish Rally Superchampionship will be the Rallye Rías Baixas (5 and 6 July), entirely on tarmac, which on this occasion will share the limelight with the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup.
Alejandro Cachón (DRIVER): “It has been a challenging rally, but despite the mistake we have made and for which we have been penalized, I keep the good feelings and how competitive we have been, because we have been fighting with both Diego Ruiloba and José Antonio Suárez to the tenth. We are highly motivated to face the Rías Baixas in a few weeks and we will try to take the victory there”.
Borja Rozada (CO-DRIVER): “We did a rally from less to more. Despite the mistake, we were very competitive. Now our sights are set on the Rías Baixas, a similar rally to this one in Ourense. We also expect to fight for the victory. The important thing is that we continue being consistent”.
