Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada start as favourites in the S-CER, after their victory in the last Rallye Princesa de Asturias with the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2.
The Rallye de Llanes (September 20 and 21) will be the seventh scoring event of the season, of the nine that make up the calendar of the S-CER (Spanish Rally Superchampionship), and, in turn, the sixth scoring event of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup, the single-brand cup organized by Toyota Caetano Auto, Toyota Spain and MSI, which returns to competition this weekend. In both competitions this will be the last event of the season to be held on tarmac, as the remaining two will be on gravel.
Barely ten days have gone by since Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada were crowned champions of the Rallye Princesa de Asturias, and the pair of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Spain and Teo Martín Motorsport team is already prepared to compete in Llanes, an event which shares characteristics with the Rallye Princesa de Asturias.
Alejandro Cachón has proven to be the most consistent driver of the season so far, winning twice and finishing the rest of the rallies on the podium, being the only one of the three title candidates who has not had any withdrawals.
Once again, the changeable weather conditions could be key, as rain is expected for the weekend, mainly in the second stage. Even so, the Toyota team is confident to fight for the victory again, after the excellent performance of the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 in wet conditions and its adapting to these circumstances, where Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada managed to be the fastest in the Oviedo stages.
Currently, the Asturian driver is 26 points ahead of Diego Ruiloba and 41 points ahead of José Antonio Suárez.
The 47 Rallye de Llanes will start on Friday afternoon, day in which 5 timed stages will be raced, two of them at night. On Saturday the definitive section will take place, with eight more stages, including the longest of the rally, Nueva-Labra (19.98 km). In total, 13 special stages totalling 143.84 timed kilometers. The shakedown and the qualifying stage will be held on Friday morning.
Alejandro Cachón (DRIVER): “After the excellent result we achieved in the Princesa de Asturias, I hope to be fighting for the victory in Llanes as well, since a very similar rally awaits us. The fact that the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 has been so competitive throughout this 2024 always gives us extra confidence, together with the great work done by the whole team. Now, the important thing will be not to make any mistakes”.
Borja Rozada (CO-DRIVER): “I have always liked the Rallye de Llanes. Also, we are very confident after the good results in the Princesa de Asturias, where both in the wet and in the dry stages, the car showed itself to be very competitive. The excellent work and professionalism of the team always makes us feel confident, and even more so now that the championship is entering its final phase”.
